counterpoint ... : ( ... or ... original point? : )

sheesh! sometimes you think, let me check on exactly how much i've done on _____. and whoo! it pays off so big! like when i checked on how much i'd blogged this year and realized i was on track to make it my most bloggingest year of them all.

and then there's tonight. when i decided to check on my novel's word-count so far, because msg said, "wow, that writeup of our first mothership rpg session turned out to be over 25,000 words long!"

so i'm like, great! we've done a good job playing that game regularly, and i know i've written more chapters this month than in ages, so i must be getting pretty far up there in the word count too.

uh-huh.

turns out my whole gosh-darned novel is a little under 9,000 words. that's barely longer than just the writeup for part five of our rpg session!

so apparently it's not always so motivational to check your progress.

but ...

now that i'm thinking about it (and checking it on another tab), my blogging this year has blown the previous record-holder out of the water! this post makes 32 posts so far in 2021, 6 more than last year, which was 8 more than the year before.

in fact, if november 2021 was a year, it'd be tied for fifth place out of the 11 years i've been blogging, all by itself.

so maybe the trick is, be sure you check all the progresses before you get bummed about one of them!
