yes! it's on! it's happening! (the prelude)

in the spirit of striking while the iron is hot, i'm holding my feet to the fire and burning all my bridges with old, slacker claire who was too slacky-slackish to finish that book she started back in ... (looks at blog archive) ... 2013!!!

that lazy slacker bum of a claire took 4 months to write 5 teensy-shmeensy chapters in 2013 and 2014, then took almost three years to write chapter six and then promised to do better and immediately stopped novelizing at all.

but you're dealing with 2021 claire, people ... the claire with the dare! the claire who's all there! the claire who's going to sit her patoot in this chair and go on a total complete writing tear!

i mean, you know, like, next time.

this time i'm kind of easing into it nice and slow-like by adding a linky widget over on the left of the blog for all the chapters.

it's an important first step! i'm going to have to look back at those chapters a lot to get writing again! i mean, i hardly even remember what the book is about after four years ...

two birds

i was about to write a post about making a new goal and having that new goal be to get back to writing my novel, but ...

the first thing i thought of for a title was, two birds, one stone.

which, then my brain had to go and think, wow, that's a mean figure of speech. who's out there throwing stones to kill birds? and getting so good at it that they can kill two with one stone?

and then my brain was also like, claire. seriously. it's just a metaphor, probably hundreds of years old. move on, already!

except that would still leave me needing a title, and i'd already typed the "two birds" part, so i wondered if there was any way i could save it, and then my brain came up with: two birds, one stoned.

hah! suddenly i'm thinking of these two birds ...

bird #1: whoa, dude. you look out of it today.

bird #2: yeah man, i am soooo stoned.

bird #1: well be careful or some human's gonna hit you with a rock!

bird #2: no way, i'm just going to walk around right behind you all day and you can be my shield.

bird #1: uh ... i guess that's okay.

bird #2: totally! i mean, what could go wrong?

anyway, there's my post. setting a new goal, digging out my waaaay old book, and two birds, one stoned.

claire

accomplishment through inertia

earlier this year you may recall i was fretting over my blogging productivity and then realized i actually was doing pretty good compared to my historical productivity record.

and i've kept doing pretty good!

now, though, here's a whole month i haven't blogged at all.

: (

and what might be worse is, with this post, i just tied my previous second-place year for total number of blog entries.

so why is that worse, claire? (you may be asking.)

because now all i need to do is blog one more time this year, and i've accomplished a new second place year.

i can totally slack (well, almost totally) and still say, "great! i've only ever blogged more one year out of all the years i've been blogging!"

it's a real temptation to get lazy-daisy for the next couple of months.

but claire! (you might be thinking.) why not just make a goal of beating your number one year? that's only like, another six or seven posts!

glah! the pressure!

i don't know.

which one is worse? being lazy or being stressed?

definitely being stressed.

but ...

i mean, it's not like i haven't set goals and blown it on them before. (see: claire's attempt to write a novel a couple years back.)

so what's the big deal?

okay, you've convinced me!

new goal: at least 27 total posts for 2021!
